Luxe Long Weekend: The Glades Villa in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, we love you. But if you’re from the city and you have a long weekend coming up, hey, R&R isn’t always a flight away. Our latest escape, The Glades Villa, is a 35-minute drive away equally from the heart of the city or from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Situated in Putra Heights off Subang Jaya, the villa enjoys a location far from traffic and crowds, surrounded instead by modest greenery and low-rise architecture. The Glades is a gated and guarded development with top-notch 24-hour security, making it perfect for families.

The rooms: The villa encompasses four bedrooms, five bathrooms; sleeping a total of eight people. As the show unit of The Glades, it’s like a page straight out of an interior design magazine. On top of the common pool, this villa also features it’s own private plunge pool.

What to do:

  1. Hit the Club (House). Make full use of your stay and head to the residents-only waterfront clubhouse. The club recreates the atmosphere of a luxury tropical resort with an infinity swimming pool, Jacuzzis, kids’ pool, gym , tennis court, a yoga deck and more.
  2. Explore the vicinity. The Glades is a stone’s throw from the recently launched LRT train line. Closest attractions include the i-City ‘City of Lights’ in Shah Alam, and Sunway Pyramid shopping centre in Bandar Sunway.
  3. Experience Kuala Lumpur by night. Just when you think you’ve seen it all in KL, a swanky new restaurant opens pops up, or maybe you hear about another one of KL’s speakeasies. If you’re working up an appetite, go a hunt for the best local food recommendations.

Nomad rating: 5/5
Most memorable: Seeing a new side of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, while still being easily connected
We’d recommend it to: Families and business travellers
