TLN Review: Villa Jasmine in Seminyak, Bali

With no shortage of fashionable villas in Bali‘s vibrant district Seminyak, the discerning traveller can add a few more necessities to their check-list. This could include personalised service, a villa manager that goes above and beyond, recommendations that save you hours of browsing online, and that homely feeling you don’t find in hotels (ahem). Did Villa Jasmine deliver? Absolutely.

It’s a jungle out there, but Villa Jasmine is hidden in a walled garden that gives you the ambiance of a dream holiday home. The villa’s main focus is the bale and 10m x 5m pool, which might we add, is always warm and inviting. Also important — the beach is about a kilometer away. Wondering what’s good around the area? Here’s a rough guide to the best nightlife spots and how do spend a guys’ weekend in Bali. The famous Ku De Ta and Petitinget Temple are two of the closest attractions.

The rooms: Villa Jasmine has 3.5 bedrooms. The master bedroom features a king-size wood-carved bed with 600 thread count cotton bed linen. Ceiling-to-floor windows give its guests the best views to the pool and gardens. The second bedroom has a queen-size antique four-poster bed, and the third bedroom is fitted with four king-size beds, stacked on top of each other and side by side. The “.5 room” sleeps just one, is air-conditioned, and better suited for fuss-free travellers. Don’t want to miss a live sports match? Of course you don’t. Be quick and call dibs on a room that comes with its own flat-screen satellite TV.

Game night: have a few drinks and stay in

What to do:

  1. Play hostess. What do you do when you have a huge open air pavilion surrounded by tropical gardens and a pool? You throw a pool party. There’s a billiard table inside for more entertainment options.
  2. Pop a Bintang. A selection of wines and beer are available for purchase. Drink as you please — you’re on vacation.
  3. Dolce far niente; the sweetness of doing nothing. Set yourself down comfortable on the plush sofas and enjoy your break from work and responsibilities. The open joglo living areas look out to the pool while inviting in cool breeze.
  4. The kids are alright. Despite the villas party potential, it’s also kid-friendly. For USD 20 the safety pool fence can be set up.

Nomad rating: 4/5
Most memorable: The owner Justine and her team; they’re incredibly friendly, helpful and always on top of things.
We’d recommend it for: If first impressions are everything, first-timers to Bali will get to experience the island’s appeal and beauty at Villa Jasmine.
