Villa of the day: La Lagune Koh Samui

Who it’s best for
Groups of up to 12 friends who enjoy the laidback life. And playing tennis!

On Laem Set beach on the south coast of the island. It’s a 35 minute drive from Koh Samui airport, with free airport transfers.

The basics
Five bedrooms (three king, two twin) with ensuite bathrooms set around a central courtyard, with a private pool and direct access to the beach.

The best bits
Did we mention the direct access to the beach? Step out of the living room, round the private pool and straight onto the sand – perfect for early morning sun salutations or midnight stargazing after you’ve had a little too much to drink. Then there’s the private tennis court, where you can work off the indulgences of the night before. If you prefer your rest days a little more horizontal, book an inhouse spa treatment. And race to the master bedroom at check-in to get first dibs on the ensuite jacuzzi.

Food & drink
Daily Continental breakfast, of course, and a chef on-call should you need him. If you want to go out, you’re just 15 minutes from Lamai town and its eclectic mix of dining options (Swiss-Thai, anyone?)

Things to do nearby
Visit the shrine of Buddha’s Footprint (be prepared for a steep climb), or pay a trip to the Lamai Night Market of a Sunday evening.

Book it here from USD860++ a night.
