10 of the cheapest Michelin star meals in the world

Mention an affordable Michelin star meal to any news-reading person in the vicinity of Singapore, and you’ll probably hear the same response: chicken rice.

You know the one.

Previously just a humble hawker stall in Chinatown Food Complex on Smith St, Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle now exists as a standalone restaurant (picture above) just opposite of its former home. It was awarded a Michelin star in 2016 for its soy sauce chicken and BBQ pork, which draws massive queues of hungry visitors every day. It’s also one of the two first ever street food establishments to receive the honour.

Traveloka compiled a list of the 50 cheapest Michelin-starred meals in the world, in which Liao Fan takes first place. It may not be a comprehensive list – we noticed that the other Michelin-starred Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodles in Singapore isn’t on the list – but it’s enough to send you on your Eat, Pray Eat, Love Eat trip around the globe.
