Got USD 23 million to spare? If so, then how about your own PRIVATE SUPERSONIC JET for Christmas (OK we’re a bit far away from December).
Say what? Supersonic?! Contratry to mere mortal popular belief – supersonic jets actually do exist in real life and not just in X-men movies. Whilst the private jet trend is definitely on the up and up (I blame that song “Like a G6”) – how different is a supersonic jet really?
Well, if you’ve ever wanted to fly from London to New York under four hours (it’s currently 7 hours 30 minutes by commercial flight), then this is the way to travel! Trouble is, it’s going to take a while before you can, and once you do, it’s going to burn a big hole in your pocket.
Introducing the S-512, a windowless supersonic private jet that Boston engineering company Spike Aerospace says will offer speeds of up to 2205 km per hour, as well as full-length curved digital screens that run the length of the plane. You won’t get to press your nose against any windows here; instead images will be fed through to the displays via an array of cameras installed on the outside of the fuselage, which will then be stitched together to create panoramic views.
Sounds like a lot of work in order to reduce weight, structural support and aerodynamic drag, but then again, this would change aviation as we know it (erm, unless we count the Concorde?). Oh and by the way, they hope to start shipping in December 2018. That leaves you less than 5 years to start saving, Nomads!
