Skis and snowboard at the ready! Niseko United resorts are opening soon
You wake up to a major Japow dump, cradle a coffee on hand, and have your ski gear ready to go. This could be you — if you’re planning to visit Niseko this winter season 2024/25 that is.
While Niseko is special all year round, this upcoming season will be a record-breaking one. Proof you say? The first snow has dusted Sapporo and blanketed Mount Yotei— 8 days ahead of schedule and 22 days earlier than last year. With forecasts predicting some of the heaviest snowfalls in a decade, it’s gearing up to be one for the books.
All things going well, Niseko United’s four ski resorts are set to open together on November 30, 2024 subject to snow conditions. Those booking early in the season (and we have some fantastic deals in Japan in early December) should know that unlike Europe and Australia, where due to marginal snow conditions snow guns allow some resorts to offer limited snow from the very first day, Niseko’s resorts do not require snowmaking. These opening dates should be noted as the earliest opening time subject to the first big powder dump.
Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU
November 30, 2024 – March 31, 2025
Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU sits at the top of Hirafu village and is arguably the most well-known Niseko resort. With world-class facilities (including a brand-new gondola), fantastic night skiing, and amazing après ski, you’ll need to get in quick to avoid missing out.
WanderLuxe Tip: Looking for a Hirafu hideaway? Here are our picks in Upper Hirafu and Middle Hirafu.
Niseko Hanazono Resort
November 30, 2024 – April 6, 2025
With its diverse terrain, luxurious gondolas and renowned powder snow, Hanazono is popular with advanced powder seekers and luxury travellers alike. The village features a stylish central check-in and eating area, The Edge, which boasts a great atmosphere.
WanderLuxe Tip: If you’re in YOLO mode, splash out at one of our ultra-chic Hanazono chalets.

Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area
November 30, 2024 – May 6, 2025
Located on the west side of the Niseko United ski area, this resort is less trodden than Hirafu or Hanazono. Annupuri is known for its long runs, cafe up the slopes and great night skiing. Plus, it’s the only resort in Niseko United that stays open until May this season.
WanderLuxe Tip: We recommend laps on the Jumbo Quad for beginners and those who love night skiing and wide runs. Where to stay? We suggest the stylish Song Saa chalet.

Niseko Village Ski Resort
November 30, 2024 – April 6, 2025
Nestled in the middle of the Niseko United area, Niseko Village features the longest lift in the area — the Niseko Gondola. A quieter option suitable for more advanced skiers and boarders, the village also hosts a range of events.
WanderLuxe Tip: All four ski areas can be accessed by the Niseko Bus that operates between the resort, which means you can stay in a central area like Hirafu and see them all.
