From Everest’s heights to Niseko’s peaks, Sylvia Tang is scaling new summits –– on foot and through her luxury real estate company.
Speak to Sylvia Tang and you’ll soon learn the Apex Property co-founder and CEO is every bit as comfortable up a mountain as she is in a boardroom. Tang recently completed a gruelling nine-day trek to Everest base camp. “It was certainly the most physically and emotionally challenging thing I have ever experienced,” she recalls. “But the journey was worth it, and the views were breathtaking.”
It is perhaps unsurprising that Tang is inexorably drawn to a challenge. After first visiting Niseko during the 2007/2008 season, she quickly fell for its rugged peaks, superior powder snow and vibrant dining scene. This led her to co-found Apex Property, and the luxury developer’s first project, LOFT Niseko, followed soon after.
Since then Apex has presided over a number of landmark projects, with the latest, Hanacreek, launching in early 2025. Promising to elevate Niseko’s luxury property market to the next level, Hanacreek offers a private onsen in each home, an exclusive members-only clubhouse and extensive sport, relaxation and dining options. Ringed by mountains and with stunning views, the development promises the ultimate in luxury and comfort.
Although her feet are firmly back on the ground for now, it’s easy to imagine that Tang will soon be scaling her next mountain. As she explains, “Just like life itself, to reach one’s goal there are challenges and obstacles. When you finally achieve your goals, it is the most rewarding feeling.”
