Luxe Stay: Villa Lulito in Seminyak, Bali

Whether it has been a tiring week or a long year, a retreat is always the perfect remedy. As is a long, undisturbed brunch and a plethora of places to party (if you think you can keep up). And we know just the place: Seminyak, Bali! If you want to be right in the heart of the action, but just far enough for your own peace and quiet, check into Villa Lulito, a 4-bedroom in the upmarket Oberoi district.

We’ve always been fond of the beach (and bikinis!). Just a short stroll away from villa are two picks for your day in the sun: Pantai Labuan Amuk with its gorgeous black sand, or the pure white shores at Virgin Beach. Afterwards, a relaxing massage back at your villa is so necessary.

The living and dining area

The villa is designed by Australian interior designer Stuart Membrey, in a nod to Ralph Lauren’s polished Caribbean style. The rattan furniture and all white walls remind us of a nautical cruise, the kind that exudes timeless elegance. A walk around the villa will take you to the semi-open-air living and dining pavilions, two-storey bedroom pavilion, and centrepiece swimming pool. Bamboo and wicker ‘steamer’ chairs topped with plump cushions, casually draped mosquito nets, brass ceiling fans and white-paneled walls ornamented with vintage travel posters, hark back to an era of exotic ocean voyages. Don’t mistake this villa for a party pad though, it’s got bunkbeds for kids too — along with dedicated staff and your own private chef.

Overlooking the pool

When you’re all set to explore the Oberoi district, you’ve got a number of choices; stores at your doorsteps, the famous Ku De Ta, Potato Head, and so much more. Golfers will enjoy a day out at the Nirwana Bali Golf Course where a lush 18-hole, par 72 golf course awaits. The 12th hole overlooks Tanah Lot sea temple, one of Bali’s top attractions.

Nomad rating: 5/5
Most memorable: The villa’s clean, tropical design.
We’d recommend it to: Families with older children who will enjoy the buzzing Seminyak scene.
