Villa of the Week: Romantic escape Villa Songket, Bali

The basics

Villa Songket is a double-storey 3-bedroom property with distinct Balinese character – the timber ceiling is exposed, some of the wooden doors are carved with traditional patterns, and many of the textiles used in the villa are made from songket fabric, which gives the villa its name.

Who it’s for

The villa sleeps up to 6 people, but can be booked as a 1- or 2-bedroom as well, so while it’s a good spot for families, couples will find that it makes a romantic getaway.

Location

Ngurah Rai International Airport is about half an hour’s drive from the villa, which isn’t beachfront, but is close to Seminyak hotspots.

The best bits

The pool, the bedrooms, the tranquility of the garden – there’s plenty to love about Villa Songket. Every bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, but what will strike your fancy is the bathtub in the master bedroom and the open-air showers in the other two bedrooms.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how chic these bathrooms look? They’re pretty much what we want to go home to every day (leave it to Bali to set new life goals for you, right?).

Villa Songket is the perfect destination if you’re looking for a holiday where you unplug from technology and curl up with a good book or play boardgames (you’ll have to bring your own) with a few naps in between. The pool, which is 11m long and 1.8m deep, can also be enjoyed from the lounge with afternoon tea.

Speaking of tea, daily breakfasts are complimentary at Villa Songket, but guests can request for the rest of their meals to be prepared by a private chef at an extra cost. If you’re eating out, there are many restaurants in the area.
