Designer Sheets & More: Karl Lagerfeld Hotel announced

Hot on the heels of Kaiser Karl’s haute supermarket for Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection in Paris last week comes the news of a hotel designed by the fashion maestro himself. The supermarché was an inspired stroke of genius, but a hotel? Are we even ready for this?

It won’t be under the Chanel brand, so we’ll have to hold our breath for Jambon Cambon, Coco Flakes, chain-link supermarket baskets and the like but, hey, genius is genius, whatever name it falls under.

Plans for the upcoming hotel have been signed under the Karl Lagerfeld Greater China brand with Sociedad De Jogos de Macau (SJM)’s Lisboa Palace destination resort in Cotai, Macau. This will mark his first foray into the hotel industry; one that has seen the trend of fashion design hotels in recent years with the likes of Versace, Armani, and (the now defunct hotel brand) Missoni, as well as Christian Lacroix.

So, what should we expect? Well, you won’t be checking into one its 270 rooms and suites until 2017. When it does open, you’ll find more rooms in The Lisboa Palace Hotel, Palazzo Versace Macau as well as a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, a themed retail mall with further food and beverage options, a wedding pavilion, a multi-purpose theatre for celebrations and events AND  up to 700 gaming tables and over 1,200 slot machines. Presumably, there would also be room for Karl’s beloved Choupette.

And what did the great man in black have to say about the whole thing? “I am very happy and proud to work on such a great project: An entire hotel designed by me. It’s the first time for me! I think the idea is great!” As you would.

She also has an unhealthy obsession with Tom Hiddleston, Game of Thrones, Outlander and French cooking. Did we mention chocolate too?
